Exercise as if your life depends on it.

I am convinced that commitment to daily exercise is the most important decision you can make regarding your health. I actually think that it is more important than your diet.

I’ll never forget reading an email from Dr. Douglas Graham when he said to me, “Michael, exercise each day as if your life depends on it”.  I took that message in the most literal sense possible.

Make a commitment to yourself and to your health to do at least 30 minutes of some kind of aerobic activity every day no matter what.

It will transform your life.

By keeping this commitment every single day you will reaffirm the direction you are going to – towards greater health, higher energy, mental positivity, better self-image, self-respect, and self-discipline. After a while you will notice that every aspect of your life from your career to your personal relationships will remain positive.

Perhaps most importantly – you will rediscover a feeling of pure joy and happiness coming from the simple, pure, natural act of moving your body.

AS IF your life depended on it?  I'd say that our lives DO depend on it!

By the way, I don't think it has to be AEROBIC exercise per se; I think it's acceptable to do do some anaerobic work on some/most days if one prefers.  Just move your ass in some way every day.

Hi, found your website while looking for a vegan blog. I'm getting older and I'm beginning to feel heavy. I don't know what diet to follow that would make me stay on my ideal weight without gaining back the lost weight after 3 months. I love your site coz i think it's perfect for me as I live in a tropical country and we have lots of fruits to choose from. Other than that, i like also that you are runner ( i'm not) though I'd like to be one but then It made me concerned coz I don't get enough sleep in a day. I worked during night time and sleep during the day and the most sleep i get is max.5 hours. Do you think it is still healthy to run for 30 mins.-1 hour after my work even if sleep is only 5 hours?

I totally agree with you Mike! I am also an avid raw vegan runner and I exercise everyday no matter what. I used to be the biggest treadmill addict until I tried running outside a few years ago, and I haven't stopped since. I live in Toronto, and no matter if it's a hot & humid summer day or a blizzard in the middle of winter, I'm the crazy runner you see out there at 5:00am every day. Keep it up and keep inspiring others :)
Also, if you are ever in the Toronto area, my friend and I organize monthly Raw Potluck Meetups and we would love for you to come give a lecture. We've had Tim Van Orden talk twice since last summer and Paul Nison came in the winter as well. It would be an honor to meet you one day :)

I'm not sure about that. This has been a new revelation for me. Read Slow Burn about all of the benefits of Aerobic and all of the detriments of Anaerobic. You can do Anaerobic after developing an aerobic base, but you don't need to. For most people it makes them more "fit" and less "healthy," a distinction made by Phil Maffetone, Stu Mittleman and Anthony Robbins. Also, check your body fat percentage. If you're mostly doing too much anaerobic, you're probably over fat and over acidic and lack energy.
