Going Out on the Fruitarian Diet

Posted: 5th September 2010 by Michael in Social Issues

There is no reason you cannot go out and be social on the fruitarian diet. The insider tip is to pick a restaurant that has an all-you-can-eat salad bar – a really good one.

A few options:

1. Ruby Tuesday (http://www.rubytuesday.com) is the hands-down winner in an unlimited Salad Bar Competition. They make guacamole fresh to order so any ingredient you want can be added or subbed. You can have it salt free! Price of salad and side of guacamole is about $11, stuffing your face the fruitarian style while "mainstreaming it" – priceless!

Ruby Tuesday restaurants have locations in 42 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and also in Canada, Chile, Dubai, Egypt, Guam, Greece, Hawaii, Honduras, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Jordan, Kuwait, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Trinidad, and United Kingdom.

2. Golden Corral (http://www.goldencorral.com) has an all-you-can-eat huge salad bar for under $10 with options of lettuce, spinach, and mixed greens, plenty of raw veggies, and they even have a fruit bar. They have locations in 40 states.

3. Sweet Tomatoes or Souplantation (http://www.souplantation.com) restaurant chain offers a grandiose all-you-can-eat salad bar. It currently has locations in 15 states: Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina. Dinner is $9.95 for adult.

4. Fresh Choice (http://www.freshchoice.com) is a chain of buffet-style restaurants which operate in California, Washington, and Texas under the names Fresh Choice, Fresh Plus, Fresh Choice Express, and Zoopa.

Fresh Choice purchases its produce from local farmers, striving to use seasonal, local and organically grown produce. Starting in 2009, the company has embarked on a plan to grow many of its own vegetables. At most Fresh Choice restaurants, lunch costs $5.99 and dinner is $7.49 per person for an all-you-can-eat buffet.

5. OliveGarden (http://www.olivegarden.com) – an Italian, family-style restaurant with locations in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. For $7.50 you will get unlimited garden salad.

By doing a simple Google search you can find many more options in your area.

The bottom line – don’t think that you can never eat in a restaurant again like some fruitarian outcast.

Go out, be social, and enjoy your salad bar.

Detoxification – what is it?

Posted: 2nd September 2010 by Michael in The Beginners

Detoxification or detox is the process of removal of toxic substances from a living organism, and additionally can refer to the period of withdrawal during which an organism returns to homeostasis after long-term use of an addictive substance.

Detoxification can occur in many different forms including but not limited to acne breakouts, low energy, headaches, cold sores, mouth sores, diarrhea, high fever, all sorts of temporary skin rashes, coated tongue, mucus discharge through the nose, mouth or eyes, irritability, cold symptoms, etc.

Detoxification sometimes manifests as an autointoxication, caused by poisoning one’s body with internally released toxins as a result of insufficient food intake. In this case the body is breaking down massive amounts of body fat for fuel and therefore toxins stored in the fat are being released too quickly.

You can’t eat a diet that is “too clean” – this is a myth. But you can undereat and therefore start experiencing constant “detox” symptoms and low energy. If you are convinced that you need to detoxify, go on a fast under a proper supervision, otherwise – eat enough to support your lifestyle and goals.

Try not to sabotage your detoxification attempts by going back to foods that you are trying to detoxify from.

When you make a big change in your diet – expect some adverse reactions, stick with it, and have faith from other people’s experiences that it will get better.

100%fruit ? What is a Fruitarian?

Posted: 29th August 2010 by Michael in Exploring Controversies

I call myself The Fruitarian and my diet -- Fruitarianism because most of my calories come from fruit.

I do eat greens as well as the occasional root vegetable and coconuts from time to time.

In my food choices I try to follow my cravings and my instincts. I also pay a close attention to how different foods make me feel and how they affect my body and my performance.

I don’t eat any foods out of fear of deficiencies – either mineral or caloric. I eat what I enjoy eating, what I crave the most, and what makes me feel good.

I think it is very important not to become too obsessed with perfection of just one factor in your health program – such as your diet – striving for 100% fruit or 100% organic.

While a certain degree of dedication is necessary during the transition period , once you are ‘out of the woods’ -- you need to switch your focus to pursuing other things in life that you are passionate about.

Bathroom and Elimination on a Fruitarian Diet

Posted: 27th August 2010 by Michael in Why Fruitarianism?

Going to the bathroom is something that we all do multiple times each day -- every day.
It's important to recognize how unnatural most people's bathroom experiences when they eat a conventional diet.
As a fruitarian I am having a totally different experience going to the bathroom.

I am now in shock at how unhealthy my elimination was before I adopted a natural fruitarian diet.
What you eat in private shows in public, and what you eat in private will eventually show up in the bathroom -- what are your bathroom visits like!?
If you're eating a healthy fruitarian diet your bathroom visits will be fast, odorless, effortless and natural -- just as it should be.

Bottled water insanity!

Posted: 15th August 2010 by Michael in Exploring Controversies

Perhaps the biggest marketing scam in history is the sale of bottled water. In the Western world, tap water is about as safe as it can be.. Yet many people are prepared to pay up to 2,000 times as much for water in a plastic bottle. This phenomenon is called manufactured demand, created by advertising campaigns convincing us that tap water is dirty and bottled water comes from a pristine environment of some virgin islands.

The truth is that although all bottled waters are believed to be from natural springs, some are from the same surface water sources as the local tap water, and some are tap water, sometimes filtered, sometimes not. Further, bottled water industries create a great stress on that same pristine environment that is depicted on the water bottles.

Americans buy more bottled water than any other nation in the world -- about 29 billion water bottles a year. In order to make all these bottles, manufactures use 17 million barrels of crude oil. That’s enough oil to keep a million cars going for twelve months.

For every six water bottles we use, only one makes it to the recycling bin. The rest are sent to landfills. Or, even worse, they end up as trash on the land and in rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Plastic bottles take many hundreds of years to disintegrate.

I’m not saying that public water systems are great and that you shouldn’t buy bottled water. No, I think we should buy bottled water, but bottled water coming in a special package called ‘fruit’. Let’s take an orange for example. Orange is 95% water with lots of vitamins. It is true vitamin water. And it comes in a bright colorful package too – it’s called ‘the peel’. And it can stay fresh for months in the refrigerator!

If you eat a fruitarian diet and you are not a crazy exerciser in super hot conditions, you don’t need to drink any additional water. All the fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet will give you all the water you need providing that you don’t eat dehydrated foods, salt and spices that would cause you to require additional water!

I hardly ever drink water. I prefer eating sweet juicy fruits. This is the stuff that fuels me to run a 100 miles. This water is so pure that it is sweet.

Exercise as if your life depends on it.

Posted: 14th August 2010 by Michael in Health Outside of Diet

I am convinced that commitment to daily exercise is the most important decision you can make regarding your health. I actually think that it is more important than your diet.

I’ll never forget reading an email from Dr. Douglas Graham when he said to me, “Michael, exercise each day as if your life depends on it”.  I took that message in the most literal sense possible.

Make a commitment to yourself and to your health to do at least 30 minutes of some kind of aerobic activity every day no matter what.

It will transform your life.

By keeping this commitment every single day you will reaffirm the direction you are going to – towards greater health, higher energy, mental positivity, better self-image, self-respect, and self-discipline. After a while you will notice that every aspect of your life from your career to your personal relationships will remain positive.

Perhaps most importantly – you will rediscover a feeling of pure joy and happiness coming from the simple, pure, natural act of moving your body.

Exercise as if your life depends on it!
